American Idol Season 8, Semifinal 2 Results — When Predictions are Predictable

Before the show even starts, I have certain thoughts, mainly that I swear they will drag Michael Sarver, Alexis Grace and the 2009 presumptive champion Danny Gokey to parade before us yet again because we just can’t get enough of them, and it has been 24 hours since we’ve seen them last.

I also fully believe that Adam ‘The Vocal Gymnast’ Lambert and Allison ‘She’s Only 16!’ Iraheta will sail thru this evening. The sixth slot in the Top 12, however, is not an easy choice. Both Adam and Allison are miles ahead in several internet polls, but there is congestion in the next pack. Matt ‘Carmen Rassmussen’s Long Lost Brother’ Giraud, Kris ‘Cute As A Button’ Allen, Megan ‘Looks 10, Dance Spastic’ Corkrey, Nick ‘Norman Gentle’ Mitchell, and Jesse ‘Too Kewl For Cowell’ Langseth are floating in the area of that other spot, depending on the poll.

I am perplexed as to whom is passing thru, and who I would like to do it. I would prefer Kris, but am well aware that there are only 3 wildcard slots open, and one has Anoop’s name on it. I have been rather wantonly hoping that Ricky Braddy can get a slot, too, but not sure if they are willing to write off the airtime they have spent already on Matt G. If they don’t allow all 3 wildcards to go to men, then Ricky will be duking it out with the remaining men. I’d rather him have an easier path.

The show begins. They trot out the King and his court. We see clips from the auditions, and then from Hollywood. Group song, Neo’s Closer. Dear God, Adam and Matt G together, that is too much caffeine for anyone. What’s with Jeanine’s Mickey Mouse outfit? Is she auditioning to work at Disneyland? The number didn’t sound bad, but wasn’t exactly amazing to watch. Wow, a moment where I am being polite!

25 million votes, up from last week, yada yada yada. Now we recap the performances.

Allison first up.Then Jesse. Now Matt B. Randy is asked his opinion, and you didn’t think he would go for the 16-year-old. First thru is Allison Iraheta. She sings ‘Alone.’ I guess Jesse and Matt B are toast.

Did the 16-year-old just say she was ‘frigging happy’?

Megan and Kris up next. Quiz them, and move on to Matt G and Jeanine. Only one is making it through. Paula says no to Jeanine. She is dismissed. Matt G is sent out. Kara and Simon fight, all in the name of the contestant. Going thru is… Kris Allen. Wow, he is overcome and adorable. He sings, and is better than last night. After the song, Allison comes out to hug him – how cute!

Now time to a rerun – ‘An Idol Retrospective’ and it is ’set to What A Wonderful World’ according to Ryan. I guess it is a ‘must see’ event, or just a way to kill some minutes on a results show. Shouldn’t they spend some time with a contestant they gave no airtime to before they send them home? Guess not. Now Brooke White is up there, getting ready to sing. She is performing ‘Hold Up My Heart.’ She sounds like Brooke, and seems to remember the lyrics. I will be nice now, and just move on. I would hate to pick on such trite lyrics.

So, who believes Adam is not the final slot? Saving him for the pimp spot the second night in a row – sound familiar? Where is the drama? Will it be Adam or Nick/Norman? Really?

Five waiting, and we have all five coming out. Mishavonna, Kai, Nick/Norman, Jasmine and Adam. Skipped over Nick in line. Mishavonna, Kai and Jasmine are dismissed. Adam and Nick are left. Simon prayed, and frankly, so did I. We will find out after the break.

And we are back. America has spoken, Nick is not through. Adam is in. Adam raises the roof once again. Wow, I think he went a little bigger with it tonight. Who’d a thunk it? But the kids are all dancing to him, and smiling like nobodies business. Gets the hug from Danny G meant for Tatiana, I am sure. And cute Kris was dancing up a storm. Fun group I think.

Wildcard explained by Simon, bringing some back, especially if they picked the wrong song. [Say thank you, Anoop and Matt G]. No talk of gender equality. Interesting.

So right now my favorite is Kris. Only for the “oh sh*t!” he let out when he found out he was in the top 12.

I’m not on the Gokey train. it is incredibly tasteless the way they are using his wife’s memory and he is a mediocre singer. Please leanr from DAVID COOK, who didn’t even mention his family problems.

I like Allison and Adam. The other ones to me are meh.

I was expecting Kris to make it and picked him as one of my choices in the pool. Adam was the one I wasn’t sure of because I find his screechy style of singing rather irritating as do some of the critics’ articles I’ve read about him.

I’d be willing to bet that Nick got the 4th highest number of votes. He’s beating Adam in some of the popularity polls now. It could be very interesting if they bring him back as a wild card.
