Danny wins the night, and he’ll probably win the season. He has a great voice and the nerdy-sexy charisma working for him.

Do I hear a “but”? Yeah. Well … the “redeemer of the masses” vibe jumping off him is a little troubling. This makes me a bad person, doesn’t it. Ah, well.

Wonder how the OTHER male & female contestants feel after the judges response this evening. And, what must it be like behind the scenes THIS season. Gots to be much tension & anxiety. Whewww

Anybody notice the vaguely concealed ‘pained’ expression on Jamar Rogers’ face as he applauded his best friend, Danny?. After watching a few of the guys perform this evening, he must feel that he certainly SHOULD be there. I would agree, except…

I am not so sure now.

If AI is behind Danny & pimp him continuously each week like this, the heir apparent will be undefeatable. His fanbase is already a lock.

Therefore, Jamar SHOULD return next year. There. I said it.

I <3 Danny Gokey!! OMG, tonight he was amazing. I wasn’t sure he could hold up. We saw many of the contestants fall flat tonight but Danny shined even brighter!!

Jamar would have been in the Top 3 males tonight, easily. I don’t even wanna discuss the females yet. Well, Ann Marie was solid.

Danny is a very good singer & the best in this group of males tonight.

Adam Lambert has a terrific voice & is probably the best in his respective group.

With most of the leading singer’s fans secured, a WILDCARD slot for Jamar is not what I desire now.

Next year, Jamar.

I told myself I wouldn’t vote this year after getting too involved with David Archuleta and I will not get so involved again this year, but I had to vote for Anoop and Danny. I kept getting busy signals for Danny, which is great! I was so excited for him as he was finishing this song. I totally agree that Jamar should have been in with the guys. I also wish they were doing the voting process like they did last year, instead of this 1 guy/1 girl/1 either/or.

Jodi, top 12 boys sang (Cook with the curly smile & the vest! remember? *sigh*), then the top 12 girls sang the next night. Thursday was results when 2 boys and 2 girls were booted.

That was a much better system because we got to hear them more than once in the semis if they survived.

… also, this year the judges have waaaay more control because they can stack each group of 12 with their faves to make sure they get through, and then they get to hand-pick 3 whole contestants in the wildcard round. This is a horrible season.

Yes it’s very tragic and awful what he’s had to go through, but stop pushing it in to our faces! It’s probably already turned people against him that would’ve otherwise have been fans.

good, but not fantastic. like Simon said. not convinced yet.

Alot of people dissapointed me tonight. I think it’s song choice and they are trying too hard. Also all of them seemed to be struggling with breath control (including Danny).

can’t wait to hear what Adam Lambert sings. He has the voice control. His biggest weakness will be going too shrieky. we shall see.

He was quite good tonight. Not fantastic though. But everyone sort of floundered tonight, so he had no competition.

I just don’t get excited over him. Mainly because the show is going OVER and OVER and OVER his dead wife. Enough already!!!!

Laff, I think you’re right about the judges/producers stacking each group. Because I almost want to crown Danny now, so I can get those two hours of my life back. Was it really necessary to handpick the 9 crappiest contestants to put in the bunch?

The saddest thing is, there is no reason to pimp Danny. He’s easily (and consistently) been the best singer — I don’t know why they can’t let his effortless talent speak for itself. All this ridiculous pimpage only discredits him, which is a shame because he has a genuinely good voice. The 3 non-Simon judges looked like complete idiots falling out of their chairs tonight.

upon second listen…still not convinced. he’s gasps for air waaaay too much. and it sounds like his voice breaks at points.

not hating…i still think he’s very charming and has a unique voice. just not buying the hype.

He was definitely better than everyone else tonight, but like Simon said, I’m not convinced yet. There’s still great talent (24 more left to hear). I think he’ll definitely be in the top 12 though.

Not sure I’m loving him yet, but really really like him. He was the best of the night, by far.

Was anyone else extremely distracted by the new fancy-dancy almost-bedazzled microphone? I didn’t notice it as much when the contestant could actually sing, but none of the mediocre and/or terrible contestants’ voices stood a chance of grabbing my attention away from that shiny stick being waved about.

There was some serious OTT pimpage going on here tonight and pimping works in this format so I fully expect Danny to win. I don’t think the producers will have it any other way.

To me it’s kind of a bummer because it takes some of the suspense out of the equation. It’s hard to get excited about a season that is basically a coronation.

I have really , really liked Danny since day one , but have to agree with the over-pimpage . Not necessary – he def. has a lock for Top 12 .

The performances tonight were pretty terrible with a few exceptions, making me wonder why a lot were even int he Top 36 !

To be fair , I would have to say that poor Ricky Braddy , who NO ONE saw for more than 10 seconds til tonight , outsang Danny . Pimpage and back stories count for a LOT in AI voting as we all know .

Listen to his performance again – flawless .
Too bad he does not have a snowball’s chance in hel7 of going on with this flawed 3 group system, because he deserves it .

Danny is great, don’t get me wrong. He has a very strong voice and I especially like hearing the raspy, husky qualities come out. But he is very old fashioned. I’m kind of surprised that Simon hasn’t mentioned it, actually. Maybe it’s song choice, or the fact that he doesn’t really do anything new to the songs he chooses to sing, but he seems a bit dated to me.

And I can’t help but be put off my him because of all the over-hype he’s been getting. And just like chercat mentioned above, I think Ricky Braddy did a better job yesterday.

ITA with everyone who bashed the pimping. It’s so obnoxious. They pimped Jordin, they pimped Archuleta (didn’t work of course), and now they’re pimping Gokey. I liked him in auditions and Hollywood week, but he’s not THAT good. Their reactions to his performance last night were so fake. That’s AI producers for you.

All of your comments right now are the one reason why Danny may or may not win this year, sae happened with David Cook last year, everyone started getting doubt in David Arculeta and look what happened

I personally think Adam Lambert will be one of the top runners as well, he has a unique style but I wish he would stop with the broadway act.

This performance reminded me of the first shows on season 5 when everyone was just sucking so horribly- it was just one cheesy, untalented karaoke singer after another. Then Chris Daughtry came out and was just so mature, so good, so beyond everyone else.

Danny’s voice is very unique. Sometimes when I am watching him, I think it is going to break or he is going to get in over his head, but when I listen to it back with just the audio it is really stong, rich and deliberate.

I think he has the maturity and love for music to be a really successful artist not just some lame pop star singer. This is what makes this show great, the few diamonds in the rough that turn out to be really great and I look forward to seeing what he is going to do in the future.

I don’t know if he is a lock for the win though, I think that dueling piano guy might give him a run for his money!

I like Danny’s voice. I would have preferred him not sing a Mariah ballad, buttt…I love his voice. However, what I don’t love is the fact that we hear about his wife every. single. time we see him. Is there EVER going to be a time that we see him when he doesn’t talk about how he lost his wife right before the auditions? I mean, honestly. The guy has a great voice. He doesn’t NEED the sympathy votes and it’s eventually going to hurt him as more and more people get tired of hearing about it. Let the man’s talent speak for itself.

As far as this performance, it was good. It didn’t make me go OMG!!11!one!1! But it was very good. Though, in my opinion, Ricky Braddy was just as good. Too bad that Danny is being so overpimped that he was a lock for the guy spot even before he sang a note. Ricky deserves to go through, too.

I love danny gokey soooooooooo much! if he doesnt win, i will cry for 7 days straight. i do agree that they need to stop talking about his dead wife, its like they want people to get tired of him and stop voting for him. Anyways, DANNY GOKEY FOR LIFE. oh and lil is my second fave!
