Anoop Dog Desai

Anoop Desai sings “Thank You” for his audition in Kansas City for American Idol 8.

“Anoop Dog” came in shorts and flip-flops. Simon Cowell had a bit of a racist remark that Anoop looked like he just came from a “meeting with Bill Gates”. Not all people of Indian-decent work in Silicon Valley Simon.

I have high hopes for Anoop, specially since the film “Slumdog Millionaire” just won Best Picture at the Golden Globes. Idol just loves to pander to what’s “in”, could Anoop be another Indian American to make it far on the show?

I really liked him! With an image make-over and the right song selection, I definitely see him going VERY far in the competition.

Maybe not as much talented as Von Smith, but tons more likable and mature, and much more listenable. Von should watch this particular audition to learn how to get positive reactions.

How is what Simon said racist? Please don’t even go there Rickey. Simon didn’t even mean anything like that and to even go as far as to say that he made a racist remark is just… being too sensitive imo.

Anyways, he was better than I thought he’d be, but I don’t see him getting very far unfortunatly.

Hmm, though I must correct Kara. Meetings in the Silicon Valley really are dressed like that unless you’re in the business department. When you’re an Engineer/IT/Programmer, you can essentially wear whatever you like.

But yes, his comments were a bit meh. Because that look is also very mainstream Abercomie/Hollister look too. He was good though! Wonder how far he’ll make.

Oh and just b/c I don’t think that he’ll go far doesn’t mean I don’t want him to. There are a few people so far that I’d like to see go far, but doubt they will.

Rickey–I think you’re dead wrong that Simon’s remarks had anything to do with race. He said the guy looked a little bit geeky as if he’d just come out of a meeting with Bill Gates. I’m certain he was referring the way he was dressed-not the color of his skin.

yes i did not get any vibe of racism from simon he was just making fun of computer geeks that sit around and blog all day and fix networks issues and wear pocket protectors and such…if that’s racist than kiss my terabyte

Didn’t strike me as racist at all. More like he was calling him out on looking like an engineer, which he does. I should know, I am one, and am surrounded by them. Go Geeks!
I read someone’s line recently about male geeks being the unsung chick magnets of the show. I agree, this guy and Alex (closet singer) could both have a decent following.

There was nothing racist about his comments! Check out Microsoft’s engineering bloggers or young Silicon types and they don’t dress far off from that. It’s classic modern geek. Simon knew what he was talking about.

Anyway his voice is nice enough but his stage presence was a problem. Since that was mentioned by the new judge, let’s hope he works on it. Hard to say where he’ll go in this competition just yet.

I was reading the EW.com recap and he too thought the Silicon Valley comment was a tidge racist. As in – he’s Indian therefore he must be a computer tech geek.

So Rickey wasn’t the only one.

I stumbled onto the Clefhangers about 3 months ago and Anoop was my favorite lead. He can pretty much sing anything.

I agree with all who said that Simon’s comments had nothing to do with race. He was referring to the way that Noop Dog looked (real preppy/intellectual type). I actually think that Anoop looks like a preppy college kid, very decent look; and we like it better than the tattoo and piercing look of some of the contestants. Anyway, I hope that Anoop Dog goes far!

This guy really surprised me, he has an awesome voice and seems to have a great sense of humor. Looking forward to seeing more of him. I wonder if he will be the “Cinderella” story of this season?
