Gay Jokes Are Out On American Idol 9

The producers are telling Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest to stop the gay jokes this year to make openly gay Ellen DeGeneres “feel welcome”.

Gossip site Celebitchy notes that: “Simon Fuller was never fond of the gay joshing, but the show’s former producer Nigel Lythgoe thought it was hilarious.”

Blame all the gay jokes on Nigel Lythgoe I see. He’s been harsh to a lot of dancers on So You Think You Can Dance for “looking effeminate” since that show premiered so I won’t be surprised if these rumors are true.

Is Paula Abdul auditioning again? Last week, she was on Dancing with the Stars flirting with Carrie Ann Inaba. Now she’s tweeting that she’ll be on The X Factor. I thought she had so many offers. What is she doing?

American Idol Gives Back Returns 2

American Idol will once again host Idol Gives Back, the Emmy Award-winning television event and musical celebration raising awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities, during the Top 7 Results Show Wednesday, April 21 at 8/7c on FOX. Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation are confirmed beneficiaries.

I am not looking forward to this. As I’ve said before, if you want to give, give now, give anytime, don’t wait. It makes me sick that fans would only call or pledge because it is their “chance” to talk to an Idol on the phone during the Idol Gives Back show. Give because you want to help.

Paula Abdul - Ambush Audition on Dancing with the Stars

Did Paula Abdul just do an ambush audition on Dancing with the Stars tonight? It sure looked like it to me.

Paula Abdul was on Dancing with the Stars in the audience, and when host Tom Bergeron interviewed her, she starts giving her “critique” the way she does on American Idol. I think when she invoked the name of Simon when talking to Len Goodman, she was showing everybody “Look, I can take on another British guy.”

And true to form, her comments did not make sense (just like it was when she was a judge on American Idol). Why was Donny Osmond delusional Paula? He was crazy and out of control for trying to kiss Bruno Tonioli, but I don’t think that’s delusional. Although I did find her making out with Carrie Ann Inaba comment absurdly funny. It was just the right of over-the-top ridiculousness without being too embarrassing.

If she ended up on that judges panel on DWTS, she would be so out of her league.

I think she would be better off as a participant, but then unfortunately, she is already a dancer so that might not work.

Paula, Paula, Paula…

Simon Cowell is reported to have signed a deal worth $100 million a year to extend his contract on American Idol for two years and bring X-Factor to the U.S.

Oprah is TV’s top earner with an estimated $200 million a year income, but this includes her “entire empire”.

Vote for the Worst is speculating that American Idol will be scrapping the Top 36 Semi-Final Format it used last year, and bring back the boy-girl Top 24 Semi-Final Format which was used from Seasons 4-7. In an article from Variety, Mike Darnell, Fox alternative chief discusses Ellen DeGeneres and says:

“She will absolutely at a minimum be there for the boy-girl rounds.”

This is good. Boy-girl rounds were good.

“We went through a lot of names in our heads, but Ellen had done So You Think You Can Dance for us, she’s been on Idol Gives Back, and she’s an enormous fan of Idol,” Fox president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell tells EW.com.

Ellen DeGeneres was a fantastic choice, and I am happy she agreed to do the show. Can’t wait for American Idol Season 9 to start! Oh wait… it already started. This is the biggest news to come out American Idol 9 and it has not even aired yet.
