Fantasia Barrino reprises her award-winning performance as Celie in touring cast of The Color Purple, which begins a limited run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, June 30. The show will run until Aug. 9. Fantasia will also headline the tour when it moves to Chicago from Sept. 2-13.
LaToya London is also in the cast as Nettie, as well as the amazing Felicia P. Fields as Sofia. If you are in the DC area and then in Chicago, you should see this musical with Fantasia. I highly recommend it. She is AMAZING.

Fantasia picks Danny Gokey to win ‘American Idol’ (Google AP)
Fantasia says she’s been voting for Gokey, the 28-year-old from Milwaukee, whose wife Sophia died of a congenital heart defect only seven months before he made the final 13.
Fantasia says she loves singers who can “take a song that’s not theirs, but make it their own.” And Gokey moves her every time she hears him sing.
A winner in 2004, she votes regularly and says she gets upset if her favorite doesn’t make it.
And she has some do’s and don’ts for contestants. She says don’t “be mouthy to Simon. We just have to learn to take the blows.” The best thing a contestant can do, she says, is to be him or herself.

Fantasia Barrino at “An Evening with Stars — A Tribute to Patti LaBelle” last September
She sang “Lady Marmalade” and another song. My video got messed up in the end so I have no idea how that went, but I’m sure it was amazing.
OMG I love you Fantasia Barrino! You changed my life!

Fantasia Barrino performs “Bore Me” on American Idol
Oy. And yet another questionable appearance I have to contend with as a die-hard Fantasia fan. Gosh!
Totally not feeling the matching red hair, lipstick, and stick-on nails. Simon’s facial expression says it all.
Fantasia for the ghetto-fabulous win! Go Fantasia!

Here are an additional 2 scenes from the trip of Fantasia Barrino and Elliott Yamin to Angola for Idol Gives Back. Two weeks ago, Fantasia sang “Amazing Grace” which moved me to tears and Elliott became a godfather. I’m not sure whether they will still air these new scenes this week, but someone had the footage and posted it on YouTube.
Go Elliott Yamin! Go Fantasia!
(Thanks Quentin for the tip!)

Goose bumps! I’m in tears just listening to it. Bravo Fantasia Barrino!

Just got back from watching The Color Purple and Fantasia was superstar-amazing. I’ve seen this show two times before, and it was already good with the original cast, but Fantasia transforms it into an almost completely new show and makes it her own. If you are ever going to watch a Broadway show before Jan. 6, 2008 (Fantasia’s final performance) — go see The Color Purple. It’s one of the hottest tickets on Broadway right now and I’ve seen the reason why.
I think Fantasia as a performer is built for the Broadway stage, even if she is not the best actress in the world. She needs to improve on her speaking voice which was almost inaudible at some points, and her non-singing lines could be a bit more subtle. Fantasia however shines in two areas: comedy and pathos. Her comedic timing is impeccable and she delivers where it matters most — the singing. Fantasia brings out the drama that is lacking in her speaking lines when she sings. Her emotions flow through the words of big numbers like “I’m Here”, “What About Love” and “The Color Purple”. She leaves everything there on the stage and it is riveting. I think I cried each time Fantasia sang. I love her.
Go Fantasia!

I watched the show with my friend Demitriss who is visiting from Atlanta. He and his baby were on a budget so I volunteered to line up for 3 hours this morning to get rush tickets. We got center row 2 seats which were great. Afterwards, I wanted to get a picture with Fantasia (and the dancers I used to stalk — LOL) but we had to eat. At least I know now how the crowds get after the show (not much, so that’s good) — so next time, I will just remember the experience from tonight when I do line up at the stage door.
I finally saw Fantasia Barrino — the reason why rickey.org has become what it is right now. She was just a couple of feet in front of me, and she made me cry. Simply amazing.

Chris Daughtry, Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood are nominated for American Music Awards this year. The show is on November 18 on ABC.
What is different this year from previous years is that the winners are determined by online voting! This is so up our alley. And so because we love most things American Idol, and Daughtry, Fantasia and Carrie happen to be three of my favorites, I am encouraging everyone to vote. Voting started Oct. 9 and will close on Nov. 2, so let’s get to work!
This my suggested ballot:
Favorite Album:
Daughtry/Daughtry
COUNTRY
Favorite Female Artist:
Carrie Underwood
Favorite Album:
Carrie Underwood/Some Hearts
SOUL/R&B
Favorite Female Artist:
Fantasia
(Probably the most difficult category to pull off since Fantasia is going against Beyoncé and Rihanna)
ADULT CONTEMPORARY MUSIC
Favorite Artist:
Daughtry
FAVORITE BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST
Daughtry

Unreal.
(thanks Christen for the pic!)

Fantasia Barrino brings the house down at the 2007 Tony Awards. CBS promoted her performance throughout the show which happened just before the major awards — so Fantasia was the top draw of the night. I am so happy that the career is finally back on track. It was really a great career move to join the Color Purple, and I am hoping that some producer will cast Fantasia in a new musical next season. Already Fantasia’s album is picking up in the charts because she is in the limelight on Broadway. Unless Fantasia comes up with a huge R&B hit to power CD sales (these are so rare nowadays, we only have one Ne-Yo in the world), starring on Broadway will have to do. I am very happy. Once again, less than a minute into her performance, Fantasia reduced me to tears. Go Fantasia!
