“A.I.” Contestant Accused of “Masturbating” in Suit

Former “American Idol” finalist Mario Vasquez is facing accusations that he tried to masturbate in front of a male employee in a bathroom on the set of the hit show in February 2005.

Shortly thereafter, Vasquez mysteriously dropped out of “Idol,” citing personal reasons.

Shocked! Shocked I tell you. Absolutely speechless right now. Could this be the real reason he quit? The threat of this very lawsuit?

Let’s see how this pans out. Mario be strong! Clay Aiken’s “sex scandal” turned out to be a lie (link updated) so we’re on your side until the court says otherwise.

Mario pretty much debunked conventional thinking that you need a single to sell an album. Gallery (aff) enjoyed a lot of airplay, and yet his CD failed to sell. I guess Mario just wasn’t able to find the right audience for his music.

I’m still a fan though.

Why did you leave “American Idol” after making the top 12?

I felt that my sound would be restricted. When I say my sound, it’s everything that I’ve been influenced by—pop, R&B, hip-hop, alternative, Latin jazz, Motown—all of that. I really wanted to get that on this album. It’s definitely a different album compared to any of the other Idol albums. It’s definitely more rhythmic, more dance. It’s a fun album. It’s a CD that you just want to throw on and dance to and enjoy.

Mario Vazquez shows up on MTV’s TRL. He now says that the reason why he quit American Idol was because he wanted more control of the “sound” that he’s worked on since he was 13. He felt that American Idol wasn’t going to give him that. That sounds more honest. You mean he was lying all along about his personal reasons? LOL

What if: Knowing that Carrie Underwood was their chosen one, American Idol asked Mario to quit in order to create controversy (and ratings), but guaranteed him a record contract (which they did give Mario a few months later)?

According to FOX News:

Mario … has signed a lucrative deal with legendary record executive Clive Davis and Davis’ J Records.

 
 

 

Even better: Vazquez will be managed by another legend, Arnold Steifel, the man who has guided Rod Stewart’s rocketing career for over 30 years.

So there you have it. Personal reasons be damned. Five months later, and I am assuming after his contract as an AI semi-finalist expired, he signs a record deal. Let’s see if the fans are forgiving or even remember.

I am now lamenting the loss of my "Google juice" for Mario Vazquez. Over the past few weeks, I have been blogging a lot about my American Idol favorites such as Anthony Fedorov, Mikalah Gordon and Mario. I’ve even almost completely transformed this blog into the American Idol blog! Google, being the great search engine that it is, picked that up, and for a while now rickey.org has been popping up on the first page of searches for various Idol contestants up to the most obscure like Dezmond Meeks (who wrote me an e-mail by the way). The recent Mario Vazquez controversy increased the visitors of this site ten-fold simply because I was on the first page… well, not anymore (I’m back!)
