The Cheesehead Report: Barricades, The Concert, The Pick Incident and Cheeseheads

The Barricades Tuesday with the Idols started with a blistering hot day for Green Bay standards. Several of us Cook fans had been planning signs, gifts and the inevitable props for Mavid. If you have ever seen a Green Bay Packer football game, the triangular-shaped foam cheesehead is a standard form of head gear. What could be better than having cheeseheads for the Mavid dance!! By the way, Green Bay is also the toilet paper capital of the world, so we figured it would be in poor taste for them to put a couple of rolls of TP on where ever.

Part of our plans included clever signs to convince Michael and Cook to wear this ridiculous headgear. Suzanne had found a photo of David with a box of Cheezits on his head, an actual box of Cheezits and a clever saying: “honorary cheesehead” Since we also had to have a sign for Michael, I was charged to figure out a sign for Michael Johns. So, if you can’t have a quality sign, go for innuendo. So my cheesehead sign for MJ read: “Michael Johns You melt my cheese.” I got quite a few comments on that sign!

The American Idol Season 6 Finale Performance DVD was released a couple of weeks ago. I’m curious at the timing since it might have been better to release this after the Summer Tour last year, but Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis fans will still appreciate this (plus maybe the Brandon Rogers and Stephanie Edwards fans out there who just need their Brandon/Stephanie fix). There is a Bonus Disc that includes “Just Jordin” — a featurette on Jordin’s journey, and “Being Blake” — backstage with Blake. Plus the all-important Bloopers! Go Sanjaya!

Suggestion: Release an American Idol Season 7 DVD with lots of blooper videos (and hopefully every single time David Archuleta starts singing in his interviews) at the end of the Summer Tour or sooner. It will be a big hit.

Just got back to IslandMomma’s hotel. My flight back to New York is at 6 AM, so I will post updates then.

Meanwhile with the charge left on my BlackBerry some notes from the evening. Once again the Fanjayas come in droves and we all get VIP backstage passes. We get a room all to ourselves just with Sanjaya. It was all to short however as Sanjaya was whisked away since the bus was leaving him. They are traveling to Boston, and take their flights from there to wherever the Idols are going to go.

It was all very sad. The tour is over and its time for the Idols to discover what careers are waiting for them.

I also got to meet Blake Lewis’ mom and dad. His dad actually approached me to thank me since he read the blog (and it was the only blog that Blake reads… Along with MJ…)

7:45 AM. Back in New York. And yes, I saw MJ from MJ’s Big Blog. And Sarah from Team Plaid (omigosh, I hope I got her name right). MJ told me not to take her picture! Haha, but at least I got to see her. She was in the “non-Fanjaya” meet and greet so we did not get to talk.

I have to say it was a bittersweet night from the get go. On one hand, I was very happy to see all the people I saw, but at the same time… what happens tomorrow?

A lot of things happened. Chatbrat picked me up from the airport! We had a ‘Fanjaya Luncheon’. Sanjaya did not attend but we got to take notes with fellow fans. IslandMomma made some goodie bags for us to take home. I then spent some time with DealMeAnAce (she was a Fanjaya for a day!) Then we met with the Fanjayas in front of the Oscar Mayer booth where we had a group picture and sang! I got so embarassed when Lori and her two wonderful daughters brought pictures of me to give away for me to sign. Hahaha. Oh god, I’m not ready for the limelight… And then Security was so tight, I wasn’t able to bring in my badass camera and my gifts. Security really sucked. Even during the show — “in the name of safety” they tried their best to not allow anyone to have a good time.

Talked to Shyamali a little bit. She and Sanjaya moving together. At that point I didn’t really care about the album — I was just excited that Sanjaya gets to buy furniture, and all that good stuff for himself. Shyamali said they are looking for a 3 bedroom so one room will be used as a studio. Cool.

Phil Stacey stopped by to visit us in a Sanjaya t-shirt. He said he will announce it in his MySpace, but he “had already signed with a label in Nashville”. I can’t wait for his official announcement.

Also during the concert, Blake Lewis sampled a song from his new album. He’s going to have about 12 songs on there — and yes, when Blake was a child, all he ate was apple sauce.

Jordin Sparks also sang an impromptu acapella version of “Hound Dog” (we have video, will post later!)

While rushing to leave… Sanjaya signed this big poster DealMe was able to get for me. And then he gave me a really tight hug and said ‘thank you’. I had one last picture taken with him and he was gone.

Spent time bonding with OldJen and IslandMomma. Took the shuttle van to the airport with 2dogs3kids.

If nothing happens in 6 months, I’ve decided to panic. We are already brainstorming for 19th Birthday Concert for the Fans.

As it turned out — I did have my picture taken with the Hooters Girls! I’m so happy. When I was walking around the Atlantic City boardwalk (with sprout and richie) Ashley and Lauren stopped me for a picture — I didn’t realize that they were the Cake Hooters Girls! (Thanks for the pic Ashley!)

Ashley and Lauren don’t really work at Hooters — they wore their Hooters outfit in tribute to Chris Richardson’s Hooters past. Hahaha. Awesome!

I was not able to talk to Chris Richardson since he was too pre-occupied with his friends during the Meet and Greet who looked like they were teasing him about the whole showbiz thing. I noticed that Chris Richardson may have been uncomfortable.

At any rate, I gave him a t-shirt because he was so nice to me the last time we met, and maybe tonight in DC I will get a chance to chat with him a bit.

‘Idols Live’ tour now facing empty seats (USA Today)

•No sellouts were reported for the first 30 shows, and only one topped the 93% of capacity mark. (That was the show in Glendale, Ariz., Idol winner Jordin Sparks’ home turf.) Of the 2006 tour’s first 30 shows, 17 were sellouts and another 10 exceeded 93% of capacity.

•Nearly half (14) of the shows were below 60% of capacity. (Lowest was 38.9% in Birmingham, Ala., hometown of 2006 winner Taylor Hicks and 2003 champ Ruben Studdard.) In 2006, the lowest-capacity figure in the first 30 shows was 89.3%.

•The 2006 tour was the most successful to date, but 2005’s was a lot healthier than the current version. Of the first 29 dates of 2005, 11 were sellouts and four more topped 93%.
