Carly Smithson — Billboard.com Interview 7

Friday, April 10, 2009, 04:24 PM | Carly Smithson

carly-smithson-01-2009-04-10.jpg

Here is Carly Smithson’s Billboard.com interview posted on YouTube.

I hope she finishes this album soon since the window of opportunity to sell a hit from her time in Idol has closed. It would be easier for her to promote if she had something to promote.

The latest date that any non-finalist released an album that went on to successful sales was March 20, 2007 with Elliott Yamin — just barely into the next Idol season. Jennifer Hudson released a successful album 4 years after her Idol-stint, but that was mostly due to her Academy Award win.

If I were Carly, I would go indie right now and promote like crazy on the Internet. Instead of buying another car, she should invest it in her career. There are still many opportunities.

The American Idol machine is now busy promoting Season 8, so Carly will have to rely on the good graces of media people who still remember her.

Carly Smithson on American Idol tonight 3

Carly Smithson will be on American Idol tonight. From her MySpace:

Carly visits “Hollywood Week Boot Camp” Tonight on FOX !!!!!

Hey Guys ,

So tonight tune in to American Idol ! I was asked to stop by during the “Boot Camp” week to give the new contestants some words of encouragement and let them in on what i’ve learned and experienced in the past year . They were all awesome and had tons of questions . I told them all the tricks i’ve learned to keep my voice in shape . Over the next few months they are gonna experience more singing then their voices are used to so it’s important for them to take this very seriously and look after themselves . I had fun catching up with all the producers and before I left sang a familiar duet with a good friend !!!!!! Enjoy

Much love Carly

Carly Smithson — Juliet’s Wedding 3

Carly Smithson

Carly Smithson sang at Juliet’s wedding over the weekend — Juliet from The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.

From Juliet’s Journal:
Keeping the BIG SURPRISE from Doug and everyone else was challenging to say the least. Doug and I really bonded over “American Idol” when we first started dating. We’d have dates, then go to his house to watch the show. His favorite contestant ever was Carly Smithson. I loved her too. So as I was planning the wedding, trying to think of a unique gift for him, I thought – PERFORMANCE. There was no other option really than Carly. I’m so thrilled she agreed to do it. And then on top of everything, she stayed through the reception and ended up performing again, late night “Barracuda” by Heart, one of my favorite bands of all time. The whole party was freaking out b/c she’s so talented, and it’s such a hard song to sing.
Carly Smithson — LA Times Interview 4

Wednesday, December 17, 2008, 02:26 AM | Carly Smithson

Carly Smithson

Carly Smithson sat down with the LA Times for an interview. In the video you can listen to a couple songs that Carly has recorded for her album. It sounds great. I can’t wait. However, she needs to RUSH. The latest that anyone has come out with an album that became a sales success is March one year after the start of their season and that would be Elliott Yamin. Because everybody knows that by March 2009 (and I’ve already posted the schedule), we will all be talking about the new batch of American Idol 8 hopefuls, and not season 7. Make or break time. Make a play for the mainstream now, or be content being an indie artist for the rest of your career.

Carly Smithson blogs on MySpace! (Okay, it’s a novel!)
Hey Y’all ,

So I guess you all know I’m a terrible blogger :-) Sorry that Its been a minute or 5 since ive been online here but truth is I have been so crazy busy working as hard as i can on my new life and career . I want to make you all very proud of me . For any of you who make it on to the show this year get ready for the ride of your life . My thoughts are on overdrive so much lately that i’ve managed to lock my keys in my car 3 times this week and forgotten where I parked for an hour . AAA must think im an idiot .

Firstly once again I have to say thank you to all of you for this experience . Because you believed in me my life has totally taken an awesome turn and I will be forever grateful . This summer on tour I met so many of our fans . Such friendly people with such dedication to Music . I want to make music forever and your love and support drives me to make sure that happens . I also got to meet and have dinner with the girls at carlysangels.net . They are amazing people and have helped me in so many ways . I will be forever grateful for their friendship .

Im waking up this morning in my new home away from home in LA . I have nothing in my kitchen but water , cereal and cashew nuts but I havn’t had time to go to the store . I’m not even sure if I know where my local grocery store is yet . Ha Ha !! I am totally in love with my new place . It has exposed brick walls and just a cool loft feeling . Great vibe for making music . Castro came over tonight to hang out and check out my new place . He loved it here so im gonna try convince him to rent the apartment downstairs so I can have a friend in my building . Haha !!! We ended up not being able to work my new TV so opted for a movie called Body Of Lies at the famous chinese theatre . Such a good flick !!!!!! We also listened to some of each others new songs we have written . Let me tell you I will be buying Castros record . I am very proud of him . Beautiful songs !!!

I can’t wait for you guys to hear some of the music i’ve been making . Its such a dream come true for everything to be finally working out . I was up late last night working on a lyric on a new song called “Lay with me” . Im very excited to finish it today !

I took a day off last week cause i was tired so Myself and kim Caldwell went furniture shopping . We didnt buy much though . All we ended up with was a gumball machine that lights up from a yard sale and a wooden elephant head . I think we got bored looking at furniture so we went bowling and clothing shopping instead . Being famous in LA is so wierd though . Im still trying to get used to it . Last night at dinner Kim told me that she saw a news letter on the Planet Funk website that said last week we went into their store and Showed what we bought . So Funny !!! They got it wrong though , I bought the dress and cardi . Kim has adopted me as one of her new super friends here in LA . Trouble is usually at the top of our list . We gel pretty well cause she knows how to have fun but she’s also very smart and a hard hard worker . Maybe we should get our own BFF reality show . We’ll call it ” The Mountains ” or ” The Not So Simple Life ” . LOL !!!!!!
Cheeshead Report — Green Bay, WI — 09/02/08 6

Thursday, September 4, 2008, 01:29 PM | American Idol 5, American Idol 6, American Idol 7, Carly Smithson, David Archuleta, David Cook, Michael Johns

(Here’s the Cheeshead Report from Peg in Green Bay! Peg was a cellcaster that night, and gave us the ultimate fangirl screams during PDSTM and BJ! Go Peg!)

The Cheesehead Report: Barricades, The Concert, The Pick Incident and Cheeseheads

The Barricades Tuesday with the Idols started with a blistering hot day for Green Bay standards. Several of us Cook fans had been planning signs, gifts and the inevitable props for Mavid. If you have ever seen a Green Bay Packer football game, the triangular-shaped foam cheesehead is a standard form of head gear. What could be better than having cheeseheads for the Mavid dance!! By the way, Green Bay is also the toilet paper capital of the world, so we figured it would be in poor taste for them to put a couple of rolls of TP on where ever.

Part of our plans included clever signs to convince Michael and Cook to wear this ridiculous headgear. Suzanne had found a photo of David with a box of Cheezits on his head, an actual box of Cheezits and a clever saying: “honorary cheesehead” Since we also had to have a sign for Michael, I was charged to figure out a sign for Michael Johns. So, if you can’t have a quality sign, go for innuendo. So my cheesehead sign for MJ read: “Michael Johns You melt my cheese.” I got quite a few comments on that sign!
