Michael Johns’ CD “Hold Back My Heart” is available now.
Michael has one cover on this album: “Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees — and unfortunately that threw me off because he sounds like he is covering almost every song here. Maybe it was the oldies sound – if it sounds like it was from the 70’s, it must be cover, right?
As much as I loved “It’s All Wrong But It’s All Right” on his run on American Idol and appreciate that he has taken his bluesy sound to heart with this album — what was the point of singing “Dream On”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You” and all those other rock songs on Idol? Because he can? Doesn’t make sense if his intent all along was to deliver this throwback blues record.
The one song that stands out as current for me is “Heart on My Sleeve”. If most of the songs sounded like that, then I would have liked this CD more.

Michael Slezak interviewed Michael Johns on Entertainment Weekly Idolatry.
Michael says he is marketing to the 30 to 60 year olds.
He recorded a cover of “To Love Somebody” on his album.
My jaw drops everytime I see those office workers milling around the Entertainment Weekly offices. LOL

Michael Johns sings an acoustic version of his new single “Heart On My Sleeve”. I like it.
His new album will be released on June 23, 2009. American Idol would have had a new winner by then, and all the fans will be talking about the Summer Tour. Hopefully, there are some good singles in there to get him some attention in the media.

Here’s the latest episode of Idolatry from Entertainment Weekly. Michael Slezak and specially co-host Kristen Baldwin are critical of the Danny Gokey coverage — in the most negative take on the “Danny Gokey backlash” I’ve seen so far. You have to be somewhat complicit in using her image that way, said Michael Slezak about Danny’s dead wife’s picture displayed by his family/friend on the show.
Meanwhile, Michael Johns visits!

I wanted to apologize for not writing lately. I have been so busy it’s insane. I feel like my new life involves only planes and recording studios
I am so greatful to be working this hard but i am so tired.
I have had so many wonderful experiences over the last year all due to you guys. You put me here, you continue to believe in me.
As many of you know i am singing the National Anthem in Atlanta this weekend for the Pep Boys 500 Nascar. Wow what an honor to be infront of 200 000 people and millions on TV, singing what i think to be one of, if the not the best song a singer can sing. I cannot wait although i am nervous. I believe it will be live on ABC at 2pm EST. Hope i kick butt on it.
Also the album is coming along great. I am so happy with the songs and the sound we have. It’s very soulful yet still rockin and fun. I know you guys are gonna love it. I wanted to get a single out in Nov but with all the appearances and travelling i’ve been doing we’ve run a little behind. I won’t rush anything just to rush it. Besides until Jan/Feb i have the David Foster and Friends DVD coming out i have the Shaun White Don’t Look Down Documentary coming out on ESPN with a full CD of songs attached too. So there is new music for yall just not my first single just yet. Also we are in talks right now to release a Christmas song i wrote. It would be an acoustic performance of the song. Its calles Another Christmas.
I love you all for the support and again i’m working so hard to give you guys an Album that is truly timeless.
