Last week, Sanjaya Malakar turned 20, and celebrated with a birthday concert at B.B. King’s Blues Club and Grill in Times Square. He performed with a band called the Peaceniks, and his sister Shyamali Malakar joined him on stage for a few songs.

I decided to come fashionably late since I just wanted to see Sanjaya. But unfortunately, I was not late enough and caught most of the first act which was the Peaceniks. I seriously questioned why I was there that night, listening to songs with lyrics like: “Iraq don’t attack” and “Obama, don’t Bomb-a”. But Sanjaya’s family has a history with the flower power generation so I just have to accept it as part of the Sanjaya experience.

When Sanjaya took the stage however, I felt better. He could use a bit more self-confidence and his vocals weren’t always the best, but when he hit his stride, he was good. I think someone needs to tell him what songs fit his voice best, and avoid songs that expose his vocal weaknesses — like Prince’s Purple Rain. Yup, you read that right: Sanjaya sang Purple Rain.

There was a young couple seated in the table in front of me who were channeling Simon Cowell throughout the night with comments like: “Oh no, he didn’t” — but you knew they were loving the whole absurdity of it all. Conversely, there was an end-of-the-spectrum cougar dancing between tables, which was one of the highlights of the evening.

Here are video highlights from last night’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of here!” featuring Jungle Boy, and apparently non-gay but I can still be your gay best friend Sanjaya Malakar. Oh my heck, what was that? The celebs openly discuss Sanjaya’s sexuality at camp, as they were confused at Sanjaya’s duality. On one hand, he’s having this showmance with Holly Montag — and then on the other, he’s this flaming queen servant of Janice Dickinson. But what was most absurd was Sanjaya’s explanation in his own words. He said that everybody wants him to be their “gay best friend” — but he likes girls. LOL

I guess what Sanjaya is trying to say is: He is a straight man trapped in a gay twink’s body… who is quite adept in living in the Costa Rican jungle.

Sanjaya’s singing irritates everyone at camp.

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were on Larry King Live last night. LOL They were also on the new MTV show It’s On Alexa earlier in the day. And also on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Spencer took some time on Larry King to attack Al Roker again, belittling his job as a weatherman who probably had a bad day. Heidi said she felt bad about how the questions were asked and not the questions themselves.

On It’s On Alexa, they spent no more than 3 minutes on the show — and Heidi said that she wanted to stay some more. Awww. You are going to have to wait for the Playboy spread to come out to get your next opportunity for some press Heidi. Pray to Jesus!

And finally on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, they talked about Heidi’s dry shampoo — and Jesus. Hahaha. This was brilliant — Fallon was great.
