The paparazzi asked her: “What do you think of Sharon Osbourne?” — referring to Sharon’s comments that Susan looked like a hairy arsehole.

Her response? “She’s very nice!”

Sharon Osbourne on the Opie and Anthony Show said that Susan Boyle looks “like a hairy arsehole.” OMG!

She added: “God gave her the talent but hit with the f***ing ugly stick.”

“I like everybody to do well. Even somebody that looks like a slapped arse. God bless her. It’s like, ‘You go girl’. She does look like a hairy arsehole. She is a lovely lady. You just want to say ‘god bless’ and here’s a Gillette razor.”

I am very happy that Barbara Padilla sang Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro during the finale of America’s Got Talent. It gave me a chance to search for different sopranos on YouTube.

YouTube is such a great resource for opera performances current and old. The great sopranos like Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Beverly Sills and Joan Sutherland (still alive) live on and get to reach an audience many many years after their primes.

If Barbara Padilla has sparked your interest in opera, I highly recommend you spend a few hours on YouTube and listen to the greats. I did the other day, and it was wonderful. Be careful with the commenters though — like American Idol, fanwars abound with these sopranos: everyone is the “best”. My personal favorite is Beverly Sills.

Drew Stevyns – America’s Got Talent 2

I interviewed Drew Stevyns from America’s Got Talent this morning. Since I’m part of the “media” now, I thought I’d give it a try.

One of the shows’ most memorable moments was when David Hasselhoff said that he was “turned on” by Drew’s performance of “Careless Whisper” last Tuesday. Drew said: “If that’s the only thing I do in this competition, my job is done. I’m glad I can help him out.”

Incidentally, Drew did a “cover of cover” — he did the Seether version of “Careless Whisper” — similar to what David Cook did on American Idol. David Hasselhoff also mentioned that Drew reminded him of Daughtry. I asked Drew about these comparisons and he said: “It’s all a throwback to the 90’s. I’m sure, listening to them they grew up listening to Nirvana, Alice in Chains, the same way I did. I think we all grew up listening to the same type of music and singing the same way.”

He said that after the show, he plans to: “cut and album, get in front of a great band, and hit the road.”

Drew has a YouTube account with some original music, but he doesn’t have Twitter yet.

Finally, when I asked about his romantic status, he said he was single, but the ladies might have “competition with David Hasselhoff.” Haha.

I thought the interview went well, except that I realized later on that I was on a conference call with the other finalists from the show like Kevin Skinner and Barbara Padilla. I was told last night that I was only going to talk to Drew so I only prepared questions for him. Oh well, credit it to experience — which is what I wanted to do in the first place.
