Here’s a look at the ACM Red carpet:

Carrie Underwood – “Good Girl”

Carrie opens the show in a lovely pink skirt. She’s performing her smash hit “Good Girl.” It’s crazy to see how much growth she’s demonstrated since winning American Idol six years ago. This rockin’ track is sure to become a crossover hit. Midway through, the stage is bathed in pink and purple lighting. Her vocals are superb tonight.

Here are our hosts Reba and Blake Shelton!

Reba looks gorgeous in a floor length red sparkly gown. She asks Blake if he partied last night. Heh. They make some pretty hilarious jokes about preparation H and the History Channel. They have such chemistry. They even bring up the “rumor” that Tim Tebow went on a date with Taylor Swift.

Blake jokes about Carrie’s hubbie Mike Fisher texting her while on the red carpet. Jokingly, Miranda “texts” him that his fly is open. LOL.

You can still vote for Entertainer of the Year.

Chris Young – “Save Water Drink Beer”

This past year has been a big year for this Country crooner. This song is a tad bit over-the-top and cliche, but sometimes, you just gotta embrace that about this genre of music. His vocals are sweet, not too crazy about it.

Sugarland is hosting at Mandolay Bay!!!

Zac Brown Band – “Keep Me in Mind”

I like to call these guys the modern day Alabama band. They have that throwback feel, yet keep their sound current. They mix rockstar and down-home all in one. Sometimes they don’t get the credit they deserve, but come on, they are real performers.

Back to the MGM Grand with Reba and Blake!

The Band Perry – “Postcard from Paris”

They won New Artist of the Year last year. This group has been on fire the past few years. Their debut album is a must listen. Kimberly might not have out of this world vocals, but her voice has character and their songwriting is amazing. At times, she has pitch issues, but tonight, man, she’s really nailing. I just love this song. You should download it. You can do that here.

LL Cool J–why are you there?–introduces Keith Urban.

Keith Urban – “For You”

This track is from the Act of Valor soundtrack. As a craftsman with a guitar and lyrics, there isn’t quite a male like him in Country music. Also, his good looks and Australian accent doesn’t hurt him. The song is dedicated to the men and women who fight for our Country. He gets a much-deserved standing ovation.

Beth Behrs from Two Broke Girls presents “Song of the Year.”

The winner is…”Crazy Girl” by Eli Young Band!!! I did not expect that. I had a hunch that Lady Antebellum‘s “Just a Kiss” would have swiped this honor. Color me  shocked.

Blake Shelton – “Drink on It”

I’ve always been a fan of this guy’s no holds bar humor and great songs. This past year, from mentoring on The Voice, to releasing Red River Blue, he has finally gotten the credit and recognition he has been struggling for. He’s another total WGWG and I love it. This isn’t my favorite track on the album, but it’s worth a listen.

Grace Potter and the Eli Young Band present the award for “Album of the Year.”

The winner is…Four the Record by Miranda Lambert!!! HECK YES

Back at Mandolay Bay!

Zac Brown Band introduce a performance by Hunter Hayes!

Hunter Hayes – “Storm Warning”

He’s the whole package. He has the good looks, the voice, and the guitar. This track is the lead single from his self-titled debut album. Oh, that was incredibly short. He played like one minute.

Little Big Town – “Imagine” mashed up with “Here’s Hope”–which was written by Hunter Hayes

Country music has always been about supporting causes and spreading awareness for various causes. They begin the performance acapella, and then it seques into a children’s choir arrangement. Chills. If you are looking to tear up, this is it. This group has always delivered stellar vocals and harmonies. Bravo.

Jason Aldean – “Fly Over States”

No other artists nominated this year has had an explosive year like this guy. His My Kinda Party album has sold like gang busters, and with the help of Kelly Clarkson’s star power, he’s crossed over.

Kiss takes the stage. They present the award for “Vocal Group of the Year.”

The winner is…Lady Antebellum!!!!!!!!!

Back to Mandolay Bay!

Brantley Gilbert – “Country Must Be Country Wide”

These performances are way too short. He’s one attractive man, but I don’t really see how he separates himself from, let’s say, Jason Aldean.

MGM Grand!

Eric Church – “Springsteen”

He’s playing the piano! I actually really dig this song! The stage is bathed in red. Midway through, he makes his way center stage to strum on his guitar.

Jake Owen and Leann Rimes present the award for “Single Record of the Year.”

The winner is…”Don’t You Wanna Stay” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson!!!

Lady Antebellum – “Dancing Away with My Heart”

Despite mixed reviews of their Own the Night album, Lady Antebellum is right in their sweet spot, musically. Their mixture of pop and country makes them a staple in contemporary Country music. This is one of my favorite album cuts. Hillary’s vocals are always sweet and spot on. The stage is flooded with smoke and green light, to give it a melancholic feel.

Scotty McCreery – “Water Tower Town”

A million tween girls just squealed. This song is so cliche, but his warm vocals really bring it to live. Coming off an American Idol performance, I wish he could have chosen a different song. What is with these performances being so short?! He then introduces Brad Paisley!

Brad Paisley – “Camouflage”

This track comes from his This is Country Music album–which is a collection of stereotypical Country songs (which was on purpose). He’s pretty hilarious. He takes this song seriously, despite its over-the-top hilarity. Love it!

The Band Perry present the award for “New Artist of the Year.”

The winner is…Scotty McCreery!!! I KNEW IT!

Earl Scruggs passed away recently. The crowd gives him a standing ovation to honor him.

Rascal Flatts and Steve Martin – “Banjo”

Lucky us to get this collaboration. I always forget that Steve Martin is a musician who’s released successful albums. The track is the right combination of banjo-goodness and Country/Pop flavor. Gary LeVox benefits from having such a great tone and unique style to his singing. That was fun.

Toby Keith – “Red Solo Cup”

This song is one of the most ridiculous songs ever released. Despite it being nothing but cheesy ridiculata, it is so freaking catchy. Thank you, Toby, I will have this song stuck in my head for the next week. I can never take this guy seriously with songs like this. Eh. Obviously, he did something right, considering it won “Video of the Year.”

Marc Anthony introduces Sara Evans!

Sara Evans – “My Heart Can’t Tell You No”

As a kid, she was one of my favorite female vocalists. The past year, she’s made a huge comeback onto the Country music scene. Despite a rocky personal life, she put that aside to focus on her music. She’s pouring her heart and soul into this song.

Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw (aka Brothers of the Sun) – “Whatever Makes You Feel Like a Rockstar”

Apparently, they’ve never performed together. Two of the greatest males in Country music take the stage with a fiery track about “whatever makes you feel like a rockstar.” They’re not great vocalist, but they are performers who really tell stories through their songs.

Ashton Kutcher and his band present “Female Vocalist of the Year.”

The winner is…Miranda Lambert!!!

Miranda Lambert – “Over You”

This is one of their most personal songs of their career together (Blake + Miranda). This devastating song talks about dealing with the death of someone close. It was written by Miranda and Blake about his brother–who died in a car crash when he as a kid. Miranda has such a talent of really interpreting lyrics and pouring her heart into it. The melody is quite simple, even better to drive home the heartbreak. Wow.

It’s Liam Hemsworth!!!!! So cute.

Zac Brown Band (and Brad Paisley) – “Whiskey’s Gone”

They get to perform again? This ia great twangy romp, but I wish it didn’t have to take away from someone else performing. Midway through, BradPaisley pops out in a beanie and rocks the guitar.

Dierks Bentley – “Home”

It’s good to see him with a sensitive bout of songwriting. “Home” is what makes us strong. He takes the simple route and stands behind the mic with his guitar.

Nancy O’Dell announces the wedding!!!

Martina McBride and Pat Monahan – “Marry Me”

Martina personally selected them for this performance. I absolutely love this song, and it appears on Martina’s Eleven album. While the couple is getting married on stage, Martina comes from stage left to start the song. I’m getting a little distracted. The camera pans in and out on the proceedings. I give it to her, she’s got a great set of pipes. On the second verse, Pat comes out. Their vocals mix so sweetly together. Perfect.

Luke Bryan – “I Don’t Want This Night to End”

Sometimes, Luke gets lost in the shuffle of other male singers. However, he knows how to work a crowd, and this “love” song isn’t half bad. There are green lasers!

Taylor Swift presents the award for “Male Vocalist of the Year.”

The winner is…Blake Shelton!!!

Lionel Richie presents the award for “Entertainer of the Year.”

The winner is…Taylor Swift!!!

In her acceptance speech, she gives a shout out to Kevin McGuire–who was supposed to attend the event. Classy.

Lionel Richie and Blake Shelton – “You are the Sun, You are the Rain”

Mixing two completely different worlds, Lionel and Blake take the stage to close the show. Their voices work pretty well together, but it is just odd to hear Lionel on what is supposed to be a “Country” song.

Well, that’s a wrap. Another Country awards show is in the books. Most of the winners were predictable and the performances were pretty enjoyable.
